**Thank you to Legend Press and Netgalley for sending me an ARC of the book in return for an honest review. 4 stars!!! I thought that the premise for this novel was pretty simple but was delivered brilliantly. Considering the last book I read wasn't the thriller I was expecting, this was wonderfully refreshing. The author has managed to weave a tightly knitted tale of murder interspersed with family dynamics, grief, betrayal, secrets and so on. The story is told from the POV of Grace and we see how the murder of her daughter affects her life and those around her. I felt the author did a great job of showing enough of raw emotion to make the character relatable. I also liked the police procedural aspect of the story. We got to really see the whole investigative process along with the courtroom drama. In addition to this, a dash of workplace politics with a glimpse into the life of DCI Jackman was really interesting. I especially found DCI Jackman's backstory to be very engaging. Unlike most detectives, he isn't completely damaged and I liked how he deals with family as well as work life. The pace of the novel was fairly brisk which made the chapters easy to read. There was no info-dumping or any extraneous material that left me bored. My only negative was that the major reveal was a tad bit rushed as it occurred somewhere towards the end of the book. I would have liked to see more of it introduced earlier on. But that's just a minor issue. I still managed to enjoy the book and the ending did leave me reeling. So, that's a huge positive. All in all, it was a great read. I would definitely recommend crime lovers giving this book a try. I'd be absolutely on the lookout to find more books by Jane Isaac. I'd like to see how DCI Jackman develops as a main character.
